
HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 34
(By Mr. Speaker, Mr. Kiss and Delegates Michael
and Mezzatesta)

the Committee on Rules.]
Requesting the Speaker investigate the feasibility of establishing
a privately funded chapel in the part of the State Capitol
occupied by the House of Delegates and report back to the
House membership regarding said feasibility.

Whereas, Certain membership of the House of Delegates have
requested that consideration be given to establishing and setting
aside space near the House of Delegates legislative chamber for use
as a prayer chapel; and

Whereas, The possibility exists that the funds necessary for
the renovation of space in the capitol for such a room may be
raised from private sources, which is preferable to the use of
taxpayer moneys for this purpose; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates of West Virginia:

That the membership of the House of Delegates hereby requests
that the Speaker be authorized to investigate the feasibility of
establishing a prayer chapel with respect to the following criteria: purposes, usage, legality, location, size, costs and the
funding methodologies being met solely by private donations

Further Resolved, That
the Speaker of the House of Delegates
prepare a report as to his findings and present this report to the
members by the November, two thousand one interim session.
